Situation

Whitetail Properties connects buyers and sellers of hunting, ranch and farm land. Their land experts and rural market analysts operate in 38 states specializing in acreage ideally suited for use as an investment vehicle or outdoor recreational property. We began working with the rural real estate company in 2010 to build and evolve their digital platform.

Using search to hunt for the greater market share.

Approach

Data sets unique to the rural real estate industry and Whitetail’s target audience profiles gave us an in-depth understanding of how prospective buyers search for property. We determined that search was the most effective way for Whitetail to be competitive with much bigger and more established real estate brokers. Over time, as traffic to the site grew and online engagement led to a marked increase in sales, so did the need for a more robust and expansive, web-based operational platform that could scale with their business. 

Solution

To drive new, organic users to Whitetail Properties’ website and online property listings, we launched a content marketing plan designed to make Whitetail Properties the nation’s undisputed owner of the keywords “hunting land.” We also created a custom site with a content hub to draw hunters and prospective land owners into the site, and overhauled site navigation to improve user experience and make it easier for prospective buyers to search and find properties.

As Whitetail grew, the company needed operational tech that would make them more efficient in their workflow. So we built a tech stack that matched with their unique business operations. By doing so, we eliminated the need for multiple third-party platforms and created a custom CMS. The custom design and tailored functionality also allowed agents to upload property listings much more quickly, with many added features.

Since we began working with Whitetail Properties, their growth has been meteoric: from $7 million in sales to more than $2 billion. Today, they are one of the nation’s largest sellers of hunting and recreational land. With over 300 land agents on the ground, Whitetail Properties is now represented in 38 states.

That’s how many pages the USA Health Website had when the client came to us. Their site had grown unwieldy, with segmented, hard-to-find, and sometimes outdated content. The user experience was wearying, not welcoming, because of its clumsy navigation and inconsistent design.

And the site architecture meant that searching the voluminous number of pages was a frustrating and often fruitless task. The client realized this was no way to present itself to patients who were seeking the expertise of an academic medical center.

A task this herculean was not to be solved overnight. In fact, it took months of disciplined research to inventory the site, audit its capabilities, interview key client personnel as the basis for more compelling content, and develop clear goals.

Ultimately, we agreed that a new site was needed to present a clear positioning statement for the brand, enhance the user experience, and improve site search, physician search, and lead generation, all while creating a solid technical foundation that provided measurable results and a platform for future growth.

A revamped positioning statement now takes center stage on the client’s home page. Navigation is streamlined so that users can find exactly what they want in two to three clicks.

We utilized Swiftype search capabilities in order to provide users with a robust search experience where results are organized more intuitively.

We created a “provider online shopping experience” so that patients are now more readily finding a doctor that suits their needs.

We created user-friendly tools such as “find a clinical trial,” “refer a patient online,” and “request an appointment” as well as other features to increase lead generation.

Of course, all of this would be for naught if we hadn’t built it on an SEO-friendly platform with a HIPAA-compliant database, which we did using Craft as the CMS and NEO as a plug-in that allows administrators to easily add modules to the pages.

This project, nearly two years in the making, was always about results, and the early returns have not disappointed. Within the first month of this nearly 1,400-page site being live, the client saw over 475 appointment requests, 25 patient referrals, a 42% increase in sessions, a 45% increase in new users, a 22% increase in time spent on pages, and a 12% reduction in the bounce rate. In short, the client is feeling better about the site now. A lot better.

At the core of the experience is a fully integrated Trip Builder, allowing visitors to Build Your Own Bourbon Trail<sup>®</sup> by seamlessly creating and customizing their itinerary directly on the site. The result is an intuitive, engaging platform that transforms inspiration into a thoughtfully planned trip.

Design

The website design fully embraced the new brand system, translating its typography, color palette, and visual tone into a cohesive digital experience that feels both modern and rooted in tradition. Beyond aesthetics, the site architecture was strategically restructured to better support travelers—making it easier to browse distilleries, filter stops, and quickly find exactly what they’re looking for.

Trip Builder

To make planning easier and more personalized, the website allows users to create an account where they can save and organize their favorite destinations. Visitors can quickly favorite distilleries, restaurants, and attractions as they browse, then add those selections directly into the Trip Builder tool. This makes it simple to turn saved stops into a customized itinerary and plan a trip with ease.

    

Sharing

After planning their trip, users have an easy way to share their itinerary with others. The Trip Builder allows travelers to generate a shareable link or send their itinerary directly via email, making it simple to coordinate plans with friends, family, or travel companions. This feature helps turn individual planning into a collaborative experience while keeping all trip details organized in one place.

The new website quickly delivered measurable results, increasing visitors and conversions within the first month of launch. The introduction of the Trip Builder also saw strong early adoption, giving users an easy way to explore destinations, save favorites, and plan their visit. As a result, visitors are arriving more informed and better prepared to experience the Bourbon Trail™.

The Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau came to us with the need for a new website and evolved brand identity that reflect today’s thriving Greater Birmingham region.

Insight

Birmingham has a complicated past. And we didn’t want to gloss over it. Instead, we leveraged it, turning the region’s story into one of hard-won progress and joyful growth. To do that, we used dynamic animation, bold typography, and storytelling that was modern and confident. We also carefully considered the needs of business segments like meeting planners and sports marketing.

The new site design has welcomed more engagement from users, evidenced by a +12 point lift in site engagement rate and a +13% lift in engaged site sessions.
